Phuket is situated south of Thailand and is one of
Thailand most income province concerning tourism.
For our luck the main saison didn t started and the
beach of Karon and Kata are quiet and empty. Few kilometers
away Patong. Its the place to go out at night. During
the day if you love to be on a crowded beach you should
go there.
We decided to go to the place where Alys went last
time. A Korean owned hostel with interesting interieurs
in the dorms. The place is in Karon, but the quieter
part of Karon. Alys did her diving license there and
new in few days allmost all the Korean and Thai from
the neightbourgh "Nakkonai". A mix between
an art gallery and a rasta bar. I will not have the
luck to discover the place as we arrived they renoved
it. Actualy most of the people now renoved everything
before the mass of tourism arrive in the next month.
So we will spend few days on this place. First of
all to be independant we rented a motorbike. This
time no insurance include ! Waoow. And no paper of
course. Strange ! And they didn t ask for the international
driver license. For my luck the police here seltdom
arrest tourist for nothing (quite different than Indonesia).
So by bike everything is close. The good restaurants,
the beaches, the jungle, the nightlife, the agency
to book whatever you dream of, even Phuket town (about
20 min by bike) on a road that goes up and down. You
will see that the bike is actualy faster than the
cars but more dangerous. Driving with good shoes and
no sleepers is essential, in case you lose your balance
and don t want to lose your skin ! The rules here
on the road are KEEP ON LEFT SHOULDER ! and watch
out the cars and dogs.
So
what can we do in Phuket. Hmmm the range is very big.
You could take diving course and make you diving licence,
explore the marine life with the beautifull fish and
reefs. I just took my googles to check the place and
even few meters from the beach (on south part of Island)
I could see blue-green-pink fish, the yellow and black
dotted one, and his cousin the yellow and black stroke
one....and little different species that I unable
to identify ! Then you could spend your time on the
beach or if you prefer the pool, go to CLUB MED and
spend your time out of the Thai civilisation. We went
by bike to different beaches out of the road. Its
nice because you see the Thai houses and not the tourist
bunkers like in Patong. When we like a place we jump
out of the bike and check the water. You can even
have good food on the beach. Unfortunatly my Crab
salad witch tast very very well was uneatable. Instead
of puting just the flesh, they put the hole crab,
but in tiny pieces, so that the shelter was hided
between the noodle. I couldn t take the risk to experience
the Thai-dentist. But the drinks are nice....of course
the coconut or pineaple juce are favorite when its
hot.

For the nightlife two possibilities. Get out of the
crowd or get realy into it.
