I wake up. I m in a campground recharging
my batteries. Here just me and a austrian guy. I open
my door and enjoy the fresh air on breakfast time.
The campground is 5 km north of the town. To be honest
its an escape from the tourist. And its a good one.
Here I can meet some locals, duck and ducky my two
currious ducks. Maybie they wanted a nutela bred and
a hot chocolate for breakfast.
Time to see the Hole in the rock and the bay of Islands.
I have the choise. Going with a fast boat Mack Attack
(sound like Mars Attack !), a 1 1/2 hr trip, with
a baot designed to break the round-New Zealand speed
record, powered by two 660 hp turbo motors. Waooow
, sound like a tourist trap. Sorry but I will take
the slow and traditional boat. Take more time, is
less crowded and as loud.
I quit the shore of Pahia, this very touristic town
that has nothing else as tourist traps. Its not a
city with a mood. I call that a hole town. A chicken
farm. A spiritless village. Maybie I m very hard but
how can people built this type of place in a bay like
this. No charm. That s my verdict. My imagination
would have see a city on pilotis (wood sticks) Something
very "boaty" that simply reflect the environment...Well
I m to imaginatif.
So the trip by boat goes. We stop at Russell, go through
some Island like Waewaeturea and Urupukapuka, pass
the Motutara Rocks (the Twins) and arrived at the
end of Cape Brett to the Hole in the Rock. We pass
inside the Rock. Thats the funy part of it because
you just think the boat is to big for the hole but
we pass and there is more place that we imagine. The
Island bay is nice by boat. That the sad thing of
it...no boat no nice. I tried later to hire a canoe.
But the people will not rent it to one guy. I need
to get a guide or somebody who come with me. What
????
Could be so nice to get into the bay with the canoe....sniff
snifff...Cu never. Ciao. End of Pahia. Back to the
road.
Verdict: Pahia = just a hole in the rock (54 $ with
VIP discount...sad story). |
