90 mile beach: 22. june.2004

There is two place I should never go, told me the guy who rent me the car. One of them is the ninety Mile Beach (wich is not 90 miles long...but whatever...its a long beach.).

The particularity of this place are the dune. A lot of bus comes here and bring the backpacker for few hours dune surfing. And guess where I m ? Yes on the Ninety Mile Beach.
I came with my campvan here until I couldn t continue. And I realy couldn t. A little river, made a natural line between the huge dunes and the road. Here just a big buses and 4x4 vehicule could continue to the beach on the river (when low tied).

So in the serie of stupid ID I decide to go to the sea trought the dune. Why stupid ? Because the wind was blowing so strong and of course on the wrong direction wich means impossible to look in front of you with all the sand coming in your eyes. But I wanted to go. Yes the taste of advanture that is deep in us told me...do it. Some people call that courageous, some stupidity.
The sky was blue. The sun was shining. The sand was blowing in my eyes. TIIIILT !!! I had the very good ID (again a good ID...I know I a genious!) to take my googles, to see something. And that was working. The wind hit the nude part of my face (poor big nose) but I could walk. Kermit who has a natural orientation sence could walk without any protection. But sometime the wind was so strong that he just fly away. I had to catch him. I think I saved his life a dozent of time.
My feet go deep into the virgin sand. I walk and walk until I arrived in the top of a big dune. I could see the sea and something else. A big dark cloud. Thats means. Run for your life ! And so I begunn to run back to the car...the cloud came in such a velocity...wind wind ...blowing wind...thx.
I jumped down to the dune wich was realy fun. End of the story. Yep that was short and good trip. Next time: bring a camera protection. Turn of the wind. Go by bus.

Result of the trip: the next week I will still find some of this sand, in my van, in my camera, in my hears and in Kermit.
