Ueno Park : 15 october 2004
My first days in Japan. After the typhon and the hearthquake, finaly a wonderfull day. The sun shine and I decided to go in a park. I point my finger on the map where I could see some green. Ueno ? Okay lets go.

Looking at people is for me like reading a book. I can walk arround everywhere and never be bored because my curiosity and imagination fills the time. Beeing in Tokyo is even more existing cause the environment seems to be the same as in Europe but the people are so different, not in their emotion and humanity but in the way they behave.
I enter into the park searching first a place to seat down and enjoy the sunrays. Since I m in Tokyo, I realized that peoples are always runing from one point to another, even I couldn t realy stop somewhere and seat down. The only thing that stop the flow is the Redlight on crossroads. I walked into the city and notice something very different from my city > there are no place to seat down on the street ! No bench, no brasserie or outside cafees. If you need to chill out, you have to go in a place inside. A place in one of this narrow building or some big mals.
But here finaly I found some seats but couldn t answer my question: Why no bench on the street ? Because of the noise ? because of the crowd, because of the earthquake, the pollution ???

In front of me a white caucasian man wearing a red short and red boots, funny glasses on his head. He seems appart from this world. What is he doing ? He simply annoys peoples....no wait a minute its an artist making fun about japanese. Remember me St Tropez and the bar in front of the boatgates. This man just play with everybody and the spectacle beginns. Sitting with me a lot of japanese beginn to laught, even the victims. But arround the corner, some policemens are waiting. I think they will interfair and stop the life performence....but the guy continue and the policemens still watch meticulosly the act...then they take some notes...Are they listing all the crazy thing this guy is doing ? Now he steal the hat of a bikerider, the one stop scared. He looks back and see this crazy guy. On his hand the hat is going soon to another victim another bikerider...so this two people that never meet are comfronted together...they are smiling...we are laughting...the guy just ignore them and continue...he is now going to make the monkey and catch the coat of a pedestrian, this one turn suddently, scared he jump back and try to get out of the situation. He is focussed on the bald person. The show goes on and on...at every moment I expect the police to stop the guy. But after a half our, the police just make a sign to the artist. The guy leave the place without trouble. But to my surprise another artist is coming..This parc is the showplace for a lot of artist. Juggler, clowns, marionetists....Things is: everything is organized and timed under the eyes of the policemens. That japan.
I walk arround and stop at various open air shows. The great thing that happend is that I feel part of this people at the moment we share the same emotions. We are very different, our way to behave, our way of thinking, but through the art we became one... I m here since few days but the thing is that this country is so different that you feel in a bubble. Everywhere I go I m a tourist, a gaijin. I can t integrate fast here because my looking is so different. The fact that my japanese is equal to 0 doesn t help a lot. But now in this park we share something together.
Okay lets stop to speak...just check the picture and chill out in Ueno Park !
