Hard days in Rio beaches .january.2004

You never had a realy hard day, a full program of things to do, and try to combine that with a 24 hours. Well you know what I mean, I have to find an internet Coffe to write mails, a shop to buy suncream and decide which beach I m going to go: Copacabana or Ipaneima.

Its about 9.00 or sometimes 11.00, a Carioca day beginn for me. Lying on my bed a hard day start, I turn the head and see out to the windows: the sun shine !
Okay its a beach day. Showel, breakfast and lets go.

But which beach I m going to go?
Copacabana:
This beach its the most famous one, everybody in the world know it. It has a beautifull view on the Pao de Acugar. It s more the morning beach for me, and on the evening the beach is crowded with soccer, volleyball and a mixed one called fugevolley (same as volley but without the hand). When you see that, you understand why brazilians won the soccer worldcup so often. They got that in their blood: football and samba! In the morning or in the afternoon everybody make some sport there, walking allong the beach, making some bicycle, stretching, and muscling.
Well and on the other side, you have Ipaneima, my favorite one for just laying arround. Here is the surf place, the place to see and to be see. Sereval Posto attrack different kind of people, some for surfer close to Arpoador, some for beautifull Garotas (wemens), and some for gays. So be sure to go to the right place !!! ;-) You also have a great view on the Twilling Mountains behind Leblond. "Morro do Irmao". For swimming its dangerous, Ipaneima (means dangerous sea in native Indian language). The waves are very very strongs and a lot of time you see helicopters catching people out of the see. But if you take care you can surf with your body into the waves.
On both beach you can make easely some sport and join brazilian people, but in Ipaneima, the Cult of the body is extreme. Girls show they beautifull rounded ass (some of them comes direct from the esthetic industry) and the guys stand up and show their muscles. It s funny to be in middle of this peoples. Ipaneima is also a place to seat and smoke a joint showing the sunset, well I don t smoke so I just look after the surfers and the sunset and shot photos for you. I realy like this place because this city is full with contradiction, the beach and the city, the beauty and the misery, the see and the mountains. This city is very entertaining city and hard to leave.
The day was hard, and my white skin became more red than brown. I m sure all the cariocas are jalous of my red color.

Coming at the hostel, I met new peoples and enjoy their compagnie, some nights we go out together, some other we stay and have a good time. For my last night (probably), David, a Brazilian FloripaBoy, made us very good Caipirinha, with morango and limaon ! He seems to be an expert. Charlie seems to enjoy like me.
To our room came John from the U.S.A., a very interesting man traveling arround the world and writing stories. John had a lot of stories to share, its a funny guy. Oh, I missed to say something: this world traveller is 74 years and in best condition. He is the exemple of people who do what they want without carring if its good or not in the mind of other people. Make your dream comes true! And don t listen to your mind saying I can t do this because of..... or your friend telling you It s dangerous to do that ! Live today ! John don t care about his age as I don t care of mine. We seems to have the same goal: enjoy the life.
