Atacama desert Day 2: 7.mars.2004

GGGGRRRRR. I m in my bed, covered by all I can find that make me feel warmer. Its so cold that I don t want to stand up. I know that from the cold winter in Paris. But that s not the same. Close to the window, Marta had a Pullover, and he just get frozen to into the window. Incredible. Hot days, cold nights. Well and Marta and Ralph (sorry guys) but seems to had a boxing fight during the night. They eyes look like Rocky after a box match. Maybie because they sleep close to the cold wall.
But few minutes after they change they physionomie back to human forms.

We didn t get a showel this morning, not just because they was no hot water or because the Banos just smell very very bad, no just because they was no showel. So we took a breakfast.
Outside this typicaly traditional looking bolivian women gave some milk to a young lama. This makes you realy feel in Bolivia. Bolivia is just so authentic.

Then we put our backpack on the top of the car and leave this place the last (le meilleur pour la fin). Today will be the day of the stones and day of animals. First we get into this sandy landscape until we rich an amount of stones just looking out of the dunes. One of them is the wellknow Piedra Aboles (stone tree). A lot of sharp stones 4 to 7 meters tall.

Then we drive few kilometers away and get in a totaly different landscapes. Some rocks with a rounded shape scultured by the erosion. It sound strange if I tell you that just coming there and looking at this stones is just like an spiritus-orgasmus ! Strange humans ?#$??

I go up into this rocks and met a very interesting guy about 400 old. If you don t believe me just look out photo number 6 in the gallery. We spoke together a little beat until something jump out from nowhere. Bunny? I let my green friend allone, follow this jumpy animals and try to get contact with him. Well that was not very helpfull because of my bad spanish. But whatever, this animals is called HHHH. A very cute animals that you can approach until 2 meters. Then he just jump away to a quiter place. Everybody try to get the photo from this little animals. And we get them, because this animals seems not to fear the humans. They maybie allready assiociated humans with food-gaver.

Les animaux d atacama:
Vicuna
chichcuuu
zorro
Etc.

We continue the road, far away the mountains seems to be violet polvered by some snow. Chung sleeps again in the car. Incredible Chung !!! After few minutes or hours I could say that anymore because I lose the feeling of the time, we rich the last lake. Another incredible impression ! This place seems to be a painting. The sky is a perfect deep blue, and here and there few coton clouds are floating in the sky and swimming in the water. The border of the lake is as white as the clouds. Far away we can see the dust produced by the car that seems to be so little (not bigger than a antz). Then we break the silent of this quite nature and begunn to make a human tower. Why that? Don t tell me. Maybie a stupid ID of mine. Marta on my shoulder, then Heink on our shoulder, aaaaiiie, his shoes penatrate on our neck, but it doesn t matter we have fun, finaly Marta get on the top of the 3 basis pyramid. Could do that in Barcelona next time! This team is great, everybody is ready to make a party whenever, and wherever its possible and Augustino our driver and guide don t care about this. He wait and smile about us. Maybie he enjoy this strange team. So I.

We continue our route in direction to a volcano, but didn t reach the place. On the road two other jeep are waiting. Augustino (the guide) ask something. Then he go back to the second car. In the middle of nowhere the car stays empty. The passager just sit arround on the stone. Under the car a guy seem to repair something. Augustino stop. He will help this people who get a panne. We will eat here. So we get out of the car and beginn to prepare the food. Okay not we, the girls. I look at the tourist on the stone and there who is sitting? Nathalie, this french girl that I met in Bariloche. Incredible. Thats traveling. You met people and lose them. And later you will cross them again. They could have make a totaly different way, but you will still met them. But this car thim is realy amazing because a panne in the middle of the desert is the baddest that can happen. I mean nobody can just pull the car, nobody can change the pieces of this 10 years old car that drive in the baddest environment that you can imagine. Nathalie tell me that the car allready had a panne few hours ago, and know again but this problem will definitly fix the car for few days on the place.
We are lucky, we eat and then continue with our 10 years old driving car our route to a city. We are in best form and now are singing some songs. Everybody in the car should sing something from this country. I tried but soon realised that I can sing a song from a to z with all the lyrics. Arrrrg have to learn one for the next time. Chung (who s not sleeping) start to sing. He is great, his voice is strong and the japanese lyrics are something totaly crazy. I don t understand anything of course, but enjoy with my friends the generosity of Chung. He is a talented singer, 3 minutes long he sings, without stopping, showing in front of him, unpertubated he continue with the same strong voice than the beginning. Then he stop and his serious face change to a smile. The crowded (we 5) applause. The concert was a succes. CHUNG you are the best singer. Respect. The japanese discretion disappear during this moments.

The route continue, we pass a kind of frontier, arrived in a desert town and met some lamas. They are very close and each one has something from the LAST EMPEROR CUSCO (disney film that you should see...its so funny). We get out of the car and stay close to them. One little babylama just come in front of me, I try to get a picture but he hit my camera. Well if you like to see a close up pic from an LamaEyes then the photo is good. Then we make our way to the second refuge.
As usual we are the last. Rosa tell us about the good rooms and the hot showel. And in fact this refuge is realy nice. We get big beds and clean hot showel. The soup is exelent. The dinner is good, chicken that is realy tasty and rice. Electricity is until 10.00 after its over. I go in my bed, on the window I can see the moon reflecting in the salar de Uyuni that is close to us. Tomorow is the last day tomorow is Uyuni. I close my eyes and fall into a deep sleep...
