Melbourne: 20.july.2004
Time to come back to a big city after one month in New Zealand and the country side. Here I find a cosmopolite city and a lot of distration with cultural events..

I m allways happy to go back to a big city, because most of the time they give the opportunity to do a lot of different things. Melbourne is definitly one of my favorite visited place in Oceania because it is a very poly cultural place. A little bit of history, a interesting Architecture, a lots of events and street crowded with people. What you search you find here. At Night you can walk at 2 oclock and there are still people walking on the streets, reflecting the good nightlife.

Nightlife:
My first compagnon in Melbourne is Jeff, a canadian guy, nice with a strange funny humor. The Pub Crawl was the starter of the nightlife. The young hostel organized a kind of bar discovering tour. Imagine 30 people going from bar to bar. Its a nice thing to do for meeting new people in different places, and also a cheap thing. 2 Dollars for the first drink. For me Red bull most of the time....I love it.
Then the disco time. Jeff and me landed in front of a disco where just asiatic people stayed in the line. A indonesian party. Well I don t care lets try it. The girl at the entry look at us strangely and ask us if we don t mind to be the only caucasian customer. Nop. We entered and it seemes to be in asia.
The other place to go out is the Metro, a big disco with 3 different stage. One pop to techno, one other for R&B and an other with a like music rock band. The first time I went there it was the top, the second time a flop. If you prefer a Bar and lounge, on the Elysabeth street you can find a good one, called something with 72 ? Very good music and nice atmosphare.

Events:
When I arrived in Melbourne the International Film Festival of the city was just started. A good selection of international movies from documentary to science fiction film, every theme, every type of movies are represented. I decided to buy a card witch allowed me to see 13 films.
So each day I appreciated different movies, and meet inside the theater interesting people.
My favorite films are following:
- Nobody Knows (Japan): a lovely story built on impression and observation of a 4 children family. The kid have just a mother and each of them different father. They are smuggled in suitcase in a new appartement in Tokyo where they hide. One day the mother vanishes, leaving behind some money and a note for the eldest child Akira, asking him to look after the others. The cituation become critik...
- Nina: (brazil) young Nina, an intelligent and talented comic strip artist has a full time job attending hip parties and scraping to enough money to finance her lifestyle. This latter activity is however not very successful and she has great difficulty coughing up the rent for landlady Eulalia. The two housemaster make life as difficult as possible for each other and the everyday harassment goes from bad to worse. - The Five Obstruction (Denmark): Danish enfant terrible Lars von Trier, enters the world of filmmaking, challengin Leth a filmmaker to remake 5 times his 13 minutes film called the Perfect Human. But to make the film more difficult Lars chose to add obstructions. The vicious game start...
" A fascinating meditation on filmmaking and a remarkable intellectual exercice, the Five Obstructions illustrates the way in wich innovation flourishes in the wake of adversity. It also offers conclusive proof of von Trier s outrageous genius" BBC FILMS
- Tongue Tied (Korea):Short movie. The shooking occurrence of parents who have their children undergo tongue surgery in order to pronounce the English "R". This is the first film where I was close to loose my conscience. Imagine a child in a Operation room for children. The operation for cuting the tongue begin followed by the scream of the child. Camera get closer each time....Horrible but welldone.
- 9/11 Farenheit (USA): Michael Moore and the critic of the Bush family. An explosive documentary before new presidential election in USA.. Why does the gouvernment leader don t send they child to Irak, what profit makes Bush in the Irak, how did Bush became president, what did Bush do to prevent 9-11, ....tousend question that Michael Moore force to be answered.
- Notre Musique: (France) Godard: reflexion about our world and the wars that allways repeat the same process. Godard ask here for tolerance.

Exposition in the Potter art gallerie:
A very interesting expostion of modern media art. The creator use the modern media to create a artwork where the spectator become part of the active process of creativity and so part of the art pieces.

Young Hostel:
Was situated in the center of the city, all the people I meet where very nice. Maybie just one or two strange guy. One who spend his time trying to unlock his 4 numbers locker. Each night he seat down and try one after the other the numbers...0001, 0002, 0003, ....When he left the room he didn t cracked his number. I told him to buy a new one for 5 box but well...
