Buenos Aires without money 29.january.2004

Ciao Brazil, buenos dias Buenos Aires. My first days in Argentina.

Ciao Brazil, buenos dias Buenos Aires.
After a 26 hours trip, crossing different landscape, from jungles to favellas, from big ranche with horse, caw, chicken, stopping in the Argentinian frontier, getting out from the bus, waiting 2 times on lines and then at 3.00 a.m. continuing the trip until arriving in the Retorno Bus station of Buenos Aires. 26 hours - in the bus, well after that don t think anymore that Europe is big! Realy here in Southamerica the distance are enormous. Just for Floripa-Buenos Aires 1800 Km separe this two cities. I can remember the last time I went here. Bad cold weather so that after few days I returned to Brazil. This time will be different. Heavy sun and some rain..

With my big heavy backpack I made my way trough the city, trying to find any place to stay. Some people told me about this young hostel close to the Avenida de Mayo. In fact a nice place. You can have clean big rooms (well clean depends mostly of the 7 other guy in your room ;-) )
so and you can have a breakfast include in the 21 pesos for staying there + free access to a slow internet connection + an hifi stereo + billard + loundry ( the last 2 not include). This make a nice friendly space to stay.
So my first day started like this. No money in Pesos. Naturaly, what I first do is searching to get some with my little visa. Hehe its so simple. I find a bank. I insert my card in this Visa machine. I m waiting, pushing some buttons. And...;-o ...and ...waiting. Yes waiting this pretty sound of the machine counting the money. But I didn t heard this sound. Just nothing. My card didn t work. Okay no problem, lets go to another machine in an other bank. I realy want to heard this little money count sound! hehe. Next bank, nothing. Next one, nothing nothing ...Grrrrr. I m far away in a city where I just know nobody, without money, and no solution for the moment with my Visa. But heheh I have a backup solution: American Express. So I go there but the Exchange buro is closed. Have to come back tomorow. Next day American Express could help me. Thank you america! What can I say for those who are in the same case as me. Hmm take a MasterCard, a Visa and an AmExpress. Actualy the Visa card is working but the connection to Visa net does not. Thats what my bank, who can just do nothing for me, told me. COoool . I will just traveling one year with this little problem.

Back to the hostel I meet some french people, we had a diner (a big giant chicken from the supermarket) and then went out to meet some Argentin folks. Very crazy people, very nice. We had a good time, billard and some bars. I spoke my portugiese spanish mix! What can I say about this night. Just that it ends at 6.00!!
